The remodelled 4-month training courses, held from September to December 2021, in Conservation of Oil Paintings and Conservation-Restoration of Stone Sculptures and Objects came to a successful end with 10 participants having completed their on-site training at Kolkata Institute of Art Conservation and Himalayan Society for Heritage and Art Conservation, Ranibagh, respectively. These 10 trainees will now embark on a one-month long internship to apply the skills and knowledge acquired through these intensive courses and add to the pool of art conservators in India.
The implementation of these training courses in conservation of specific materials is one of the objectives of the Art Conservation Initiative that proposes to establish a framework for art conservation in the country.
Some glimpses from the two completed training courses are presented here that show the hands-on practical training in action.
