About the theme
Tata Trusts, through the Centre for Microfinance & Livelihoods (CML), its nodal organisation in Manipur, has been supporting boxing talent at the Mary Kom Boxing Academy in Imphal. The Academy hosts 75 girls and boys aged 12-16 years, who largely come from underprivileged backgrounds in the region. Of these 15 budding boxers are being sponsored by the Trusts.
Started in 2015, the Academy has a tie-up with the Sports Authority of India and draws support from the state government and a mix of business houses, charitable organisations and individuals. From finding the right kids to cutting-edge coaching, nutritional inputs, performance analysis and exposure to competition, the Academy offers trainees the platform to shine in a sport that has seen a growing popularity in India. Students at the Academy have been winning honours in state and national boxing contests.
