Set against the backdrop of the magnificent Qutb Shahi tombs, Kalapana 2019 — a Tata Trusts platform to showcase the Trusts’ partners and to bring stakeholders together to deliberate on the arts — highlighted the work of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) that is undertaking the conservation of ten monuments at the site, and the efforts of the Film Heritage Foundation (FHF) which is committed to preserving films via annual training workshops and awareness campaigns.
The day-long event on December 5, 2019, took the form of site walks conducted by conservation architects from AKTC, which explained not just the history of the monuments but also the conservation efforts of the craftsmen, followed by a public lecture by Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, Founder-Director, FHF, on the need to save our cinematic heritage. The event closed with an open air screening of a restored classic from 1960, ‘Meghe Dhaka Tara’ by Ritwik Ghatak.
