From the Lens of the Children

At an on-ground art session in Bharat Nagar, Bandra East, Mumbai, illustrator Kripa Bhatia spent the day opening windows to imagination — sharing stories and artwork from What I Want with young learners as they explored their own dreams on paper. The on-ground session, facilitated by Red Boys Foundation and supported by Parag, an initiative of Tata Trusts, encouraged children to sketch the futures they hope to build. Some of these heartfelt expressions were showcased at the Nobel Prize Dialogue India 2025 held at Bengaluru.

A group of children sat together sketching the futures they dream of — filled with dignity, opportunity and equality. The session created space for them to imagine and express who they want to become and the India they hope to see.

Gulnar, 17, draws her dream future — education, flying planes, and a greener world.

Sami, 16, pours his hopes into the character of Kakashi, a hero who rises above hardship with kindness and strength. Sami shared his belief that a compassionate, understanding and forgiving society (that mirror’s Kakashi’s character) can shape a better future. His artwork reflects the person he hopes to become and the world he wishes to see.

Kripa, a renowned illustrator herself, reflected on the artworks created by the children, “A small introduction to the six indigenous and folk art forms and a little background of the six artists, opened a new world to our children. I cannot say whether all our girls — many of whom come from restrictive environments — felt a sense of liberation seeing women artists who have overcome their own barriers… but their drawings spoke loudly enough. One girl imagined a future city where women can walk safely at night. These drawings remind us how much work still lies ahead to create a world that is safe and joyful. They call on us to respond with urgency and empathy. The Nobel Prize Dialogue offers a meaningful space to bring these young voices to the forefront.”
