Ratan N. Tata focuses on the Tata Trusts.

Mr Tata's leadership leads to redefining the operations, objectives and purpose of the Trusts, one of India's largest philanthropic organisations. Mr Tata initiates integration of the various entities that constitute the Tata Trusts and a shift from traditional charity to proactive, results-oriented philanthropy with a strategic and sustainable approach to operations. In addition to ongoing work, the Trusts explore ways to address two critical needs in the country - nutrition and cancer care.

Tata Center is established at MIT.

The Tata Center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US brings world-class researchers from India and MIT together to develop technologically sophisticated solutions to India’s most pressing challenges.

Tata Centre for Technology and Design (TCTD) is set up at IIT-Bombay in collaboration with MIT.

TCTD is established to develop technology solutions that address unmet needs of resource-constrained communities within India and across the world.

Initiative integration

The Trusts adopt a matrix approach to integrate multiple thematic initiatives and foster holistic and sustainable development in underdeveloped regions.

TCD is set up as a development accelerator that addresses three key areas of India’s developmental issues – health, water and sanitation, and energy and environment – to advance social impact.

CBR-Tata Longitudinal Study of Aging starts in Bengaluru.

The Tata Longitudinal Study of Aging, conducted by the Centre for Brain Research at Indian Institute of Science, aims to examine cognitive changes due to age, Alzheimer’s disease, and other related disorders.

Tata Dairy Mission is launched to sustainably enhance incomes of milk producers.

The Tata Dairy Mission, launched by the Tata Trusts in partnership with Dairy Health and Nutrition Initiative India Foundation (DHANII), aims to sustainably enhance milk producers' incomes by improving milk production, animal health, and market linkages. Through Milk Producer Companies (MPCs), the project provides technology, infrastructure, and assured market access.

The National Cancer Grid (NCG), with the support of Tata Trusts, facilitates a high-bandwidth, secure, and private network through which medics or doctors at cancer care centres around the country can interact with each other.

The Trusts introduce the Cancer Care Programme to ensure affordable, high-quality care is available for patients, closer to their homes.

The Government of Assam and the Tata Trusts set up the Assam Cancer Care Foundation to create a first-of-its-kind network of centres to address the cancer care burden in Assam.

Tata Institute for Genetics and Society (TIGS) is established in Bengaluru.

Focusing on research, training, and capacity building of Indian scientists in using the latest genetic technologies to address food and healthcare security in India.
