Healthcare in India is at a pivotal moment, and innovation is key to unlocking its potential. On January 14, 2025, the Tata Group entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) helmed by Tata Trusts and Tata Sons. The event was graced by Noel Tata, Chairman, Tata Trusts; N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons; Prof G Rangarajan, Director, IISc; and other senior leaders of the Tata Group. On behalf of the Tata Trusts, the MoU was signed by the CEO Siddharth Sharma.
Recognising the transformative vision of the Group and the role played by the Tata Trusts in setting up the IISc, Prof Rangarajan stated, "The Institute owes its existence to the munificence and far-sighted vision of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, who was unparalleled in his philanthropy towards education in India. We are firmly committed to carrying forward this legacy and breaking new ground in creating affordable healthcare solutions for India and the rest of the world.”
The MoU will support the establishment of the Tata IISc Medical School, a pioneering initiative that will combine basic sciences, engineering, and clinical practice to tackle critical health challenges in fields like oncology, cardiology, and neurology. The proposed Medical School will foster a culture of collaboration across disciplines and facilitate high level innovation in the areas of medical research and practice.
