Children learn best when they have spaces that invite curiosity, participation and a sense of belonging. The Tata Trusts promote initiatives that make learning environments more inclusive and engaging, while creating opportunities for children and young people who may otherwise remain outside or at the margins of formal education.
The Tata Trusts believe in making reading for pleasure a part of every childhood. The Parag Initiative was set up to assist the development of and access to good quality storybooks for children in Indian languages. It supports school and community libraries so that children have free access to books and an open and vibrant environment that encourages reading for pleasure.

Staying true to the Tata Trusts' ecosystem building approach, Parag also works to nurture the children's literature sector through awards, professional courses and linking various stakeholders together through events for teachers, librarians and facilitators.

Highly vulnerable children include those who remain outside the formal education system or experience disrupted learning due to circumstances such as migration, institutional care, disability, or other forms of social and economic exclusion. Many never enrol in school, while others are unable to continue their education because conventional systems are often not designed to meet their needs.

Recognising the unique role philanthropy can play, the Tata Trusts seek to bring greater attention to these often-overlooked groups while backing innovative and context-responsive approaches that help improve access to learning opportunities and enable their meaningful inclusion within the education ecosystem. This includes supporting initiatives for out-of-school children and adolescents through bridge courses and open schooling pathways that enable them to complete their education.
