The Years
That Shaped Us

Education as an instrument of progress

Jamsetji Tata establishes the JN Tata Endowment to help Indian students pursue higher education and return with knowledge that could serve the country.

The Endowment became an early expression of constructive philanthropy—investing in talent so that opportunity could become national capability.

The Sir Ratan Tata Trust is set up

Established in 1919, the Trust carries forward a vision of advancing education, learning, industry, public health and relief without distinction of place, nationality or creed.

Its early grants helped establish institutions that would strengthen India’s intellectual and social foundations.
