MoU between Tata Trusts and
Board of Mumbai Port Authority

On 23 August 2023, Tata Trusts and the Board of Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) joined forces through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on preserving Sagar Upvan, a 48,000 sq metre garden in Colaba, Mumbai, having a historical legacy. This historically significant plot of land is owned by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, with MbPA serving as the executing authority responsible for its upkeep and maintenance.

The MoU is towards safeguarding the garden’s natural habitat and creating a green lung in South Mumbai. A variety of measures aimed at enhancing the security and infrastructure of the garden for the benefit of the general public would be undertaken.

The MoU was signed by Rajiv Jalota, Chairperson of MbPA, and Siddharth Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of Tata Trusts. As per the terms of the MoU, the Trusts will take on the responsibility of repairing and maintaining the garden for a period of five years, ie until 31 May 2028.
